Excellent read...The book was a great read, albeit all over the place. Mental illness does that, and the author did an excellent job of showcasing just how much mental illness can have a significant bearing on normal day to day life. This is just a brief glimpse into that world. The book is hard on the heart..., but overall, the enveloping story was pretty awesome. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read, or for a dive into understanding mental illness, somewhat. This could be a teaching tool or just a simple read. I really enjoyed this book.★★★★M. from Goodreads

The Writer is a fascinating, compelling hybrid of autobiographical fiction and literary memoir. In the same way that Truman Capote’s classic “non-fiction novel,” In Cold Blood, created the genre of True Crime; Emerson’s The Writer pioneers a new kind of meta-fiction. The book is both a meditation on the creative process and a narrative about the creation of itself...The Writer is both a bracingly intimate look inside a specific artist’s process, as well as a relatable struggle for anyone who feels constrained by their past. Gripping and unique, The Writer receives my highest recommendation.★★★★★W.B. from Amazon
